Elevating Psychiatric care Services

Individual Psychotherapy

Individuals present with various presentations. They might be experiencing anxiety regarding so many mundane aspects of their day, struggling to get out of bed in the morning or do the things that they used to enjoy, struggling to concentrate at work, struggling to cope with life stressors, struggling to find a work life balance. As medical doctors, psychiatrists are unique in that they are trained in the medical sciences along with psychology and psychotherapy. Psychiatrists are both doctor and therapist. Dr. Poulakos provides psychotherapy. His treatment approach combines elements of cognitive behavioral therapy, psychodynamic therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and mindfulness. An integrated approach is valued for its ability to adapt to the needs of the patient. This is especially pertinent for different diagnostic presentations, as there are varying gold standard treatments dependent on symptoms present. Perhaps your goals are not treatment rather prevention and overall wellness. One doesn’t need a psychiatric diagnosis to prioritize their mental health. Just like you would go for a well exam or a physical at your primary care doctor, one should feel just as comfortable scheduling a check-in with a psychiatrist. Given the busy, fast-paced, challenging lives we live, Dr. Poulakos believes in the Mental Health Check-up. Sometimes patients already have a therapist, in which case, Dr. Poulakos can communicate with your outside therapist to help you meet your goals. A collaborative and holistic approach is at the heart of the practice, ensuring the people involved in your treatment are all aligned with what is best for your growth.
